I'm excited that I'll finally get to meet Traci at the upcoming IBBY regional conference and I hope you'll join me there! (IBBY = International Board on Books for Young People and USBBY is the US section of this global group.) It's one of my favorite professional development events of the year (or every other year since it's biennial)! It's a small event with an intimate feel-- almost like a literature "retreat." And each of the speakers (authors, illustrators, poets) mix and mingle with the conference-goers. Most stay for the whole conference and become part of the audience too. It's lovely! And best of all, this is a group that looks at literature with a global focus, so meaningful in helping us think beyond our own borders. I hope you'll consider joining us! Here's the link for more info.
Best of all, there are heaps of poets who will be at the conference! Look at this list (below)! So, make plans to come to Austin, Texas in October and you won't regret it!

Sylvia and Janet, thanks so much for hosting this week. One of the things that's so special about your books is how you welcome new poets into the world of published work. As a librarian, I find Traci's poem just perfect! This week, my Sunday Night Swaggers are sharing poems from the same prompt. Have fun seeing all the ways we responded to the prompt.
Thanks for hosting! I will definitely be sharing this book with my school leaders. Love it!
Thanks for sharing Traci's poem. Hope you have lots of fun at the IBBY Conference! Nice to return from summer blog break and have you and Janet hosting the Roundup. :)
Love Traci's poem–so succinct and inviting! The IBBY Conference looks wonderful–what a fun teaser your graphics are with all the poets, hope you'll fill us in afterward. Thanks Sylvia and Janet for hosting the roundup this week!
Janet and Sylvia, thank you for hosting this week. I love Traci's poem, and I love GREAT Morning! I sure wish I could be at the IBBY Conference!

Here's to school libraries and librarians and all who bring such goodness to children. Thank you for Traci's grateful words and for sharing about the IBBY Conference. Someday I will come. Thank you, too, for hosting. xx
Thank you Janet and Sylvia for hosting and for sharing your news about a special gathering of poets. This needs to happen more!
Wow! What a stellar cast of poets gathering in one location! I can only imagine all the energy and inspiration that will flow there. Enjoy! Thanks so much for hosting this week and for the reminder to be thankful.
Hi Sylvia and Janet, thanks for hosting. Traci's poem is so lovely. The IBBY conference sounds amazing. I wish I could be there!
Thanks for hosting today! I love Traci's poem. The school library was always my favorite thing about school. The conference looks fabulous. I see several Poetry Friday friends will be there. Enjoy it, and I hope we will hear all about it.
I'm thankful for that lovely poem, and I'm thankful that you and Janet are hosting this week! The conference faculty sounds amazing. I wish I lived closer. I hope you'll share some nuggets here when you get back.
The conference sounds wonderful! I'm always thankful for libraries---not only because of the awesome librarians and the numerous resources, but also because I love writing there, surrounded by What is Possible-- Hope in book form! Many thanks for hosting today.
Thanks for hosting today! The IBBY conference sounds like it will be lots of fun. Can't wait to hear about it.
Sylvia and Janet, I fell asleep reading your post and never got to add my post so bright and early I woke. I am going to send out tweets with info on Great Morning and this Poetry Friday party. Great Morning is such a must-read for the back to school classrooms and principal's offices. I am so glad to be a part of that story and able to share the good news. Thanks for hosting PF today. See you at NCTE19.
What better way to welcome teachers and students back to school than with poetry and thankfulness. :) The IBBY poetry line-up this here looks outstanding! Thanks for hosting Poetry Friday this week, Sylvia and Janet!
OOOh, I wish I could be at IBBY with all these wonderful poets! Hopefully next time! So glad you highlighted Traci Sorell. She is such an important new and talented voice!
Thanks for the conference information - looks like you'll have a rich and amazing list of speakers!
This sounds like an amazing conference. Joy and hope are always good things to celebrate.
PS thank you for hosting!
What a sweet poem from Traci. I loved my elementary school library -- it felt like a retreat. I'm looking forward to seeing so many Poetry Friday friends at UBBY next month!
You and Janet are such treasures! I'll see you in Abilene, by the way, for the West Texas Book Festival!
Thanks for hosting today...
Thanks for sharing this great poem. There can never be too much praise or gratitude for libraries, in my opinion. :-)
Wish I could attend the conference! You'll have to give my co-blogger April Halprin Wayland a hug from me while you're there!
Ah, Janet and Sylvia, you tireless purveyors of poetry perfection! How I wish I could one day meet you all at a conference and revel in the company of so many poets and advocates I admire! For now, I thank you from afar for all you do for us, for teachers and librarians, and for countless kids. You really are poetry goddesses!
I second what Renee LaTulippe said! The IBBY conference sounds like a poetry dream come true. Wish I could be there.
Thank you for hosting! I hope you report on the conference afterwards -- it is always lovely to be briefed about the wonderful things that go on.
Thank you for hosting today, Sylvia and Janet! There are so many wonderful poems in Great Morning, and this is one of my favorites. The IBBY conference sounds amazing! How could it not be, with so many incredible poets? It's not an option for me, but I am planning to be at NCTE. Hope to see you there!
Thank you Sylvia and Janet for hosting! I'm new to the community and have been really enjoying reading the work of others and sharing my own.
Thanks for hosting this week. And thanks for sharing Traci's poem. It made me smile--I've always been a lover of libraries (well, maybe not always, but as soon as I learned to read). And the conference sounds amazing! I wish I could come. Can't wait to hear more about it.
Thanks so much for hosting, you two! It's always a GREAT MORNING over here, and I'm sure Traci's poem helps make mornings great in school hallways, too! :0) Have a fabulous, inspiring time at IBBY. (I did not manage a post this week, as we're still out of town after evacuating from Hurricane Dorian. Have heard our house looks fine, and our little town was very fortunate despite the close brush with Dorian, who was a Cat 3 just off our coast. Keeping so many affected in our hearts and prayers.) XO
So many joys to think of, in uncovering what new books are on exhibit in the school library.
Book talks and parades.
Lots and lots of poem-reading, story-acting, days.
Appreciations for sharing a poet new to me & for all the October Auxtin TX IBBY conference goodness.
You all Get Your Poet Boots ON!! Will look forward to the posts/articles/blogs/photos that flow forth from that one.
With thanks for hosting us, too.
My Sept. 6 post will appear soon once I wiggle some photos into place at Bookseedstudio.
Hi Janet & Sylvia.
It is like opening a book box in the mail, to learn of a new poet - appreciations for the intro to Traci & her joyful words
And high fives for the upcoming October poetry party at IBBY in Texas. It gives me a glow to know I have
books of many of the presenters & have even met & call Friend, some of them. What a welcoming world
Poetry Friday/Children's Literature is. I will be with you all in Spirit.
Thank you for hosting and for the lovely poem uplifting libraries. I can't image life without them! Have a great time at your conference!
Hey, y'all! Janet and I are so grateful to be part of this beautiful Poetry Friday community! Thanks so much for linking all your awesome posts and for pausing to comment too. You're all so lovely and generous and we appreciate your kind words! In a world that can be so difficult, this Poetry Friday light is such beacon! Thanks again!
YES, thank you, everyone, for your comments. I loved visiting your blogs and reading about poetry swaps, "womanity," Hildegard and nun puffs, and snakes . . . and Snakes , , , and SNAKES!!! (I am very afraid of snakes--and still found your poems fascinating.) How can we bring more people to the Poetry Friday community? Let's work on that--with our tweets, shares, mentions, and "old-fashioned" emails!!!
