In the Life of a Substitute

For all the teachers--and substitute teachers-- here's a poem just for you!

Janequeal S. created this poem video for the poem, "In the Life of a Substitute" by Lydia Breiseth from GREAT Morning! Poems for School Leaders to Read Aloud (Pomelo Books, 2018). Enjoy!

As a retired teacher, I substitute in my old school, often for good friends and colleagues. I get to know the newer generations of kids perhaps whose siblings or parents I taught or knew/know. I go because I love it. I go to help ( I live a few blocks away, pretty much around the corner.) I like having a poem that shows what I experience. I am often asked this question : oooh do we get to do poetry today? I love being able to sub. Or visit. Thank you to Janequeal and Lydia for the poem and video! Thanks Janet and Sylvia for another great book! Great Morning! I gave a copy to the new principal and hope maybe next year she (or an appointed person) might get into reading them.
