10 Ways that Poetry Makes Library Collections Better
I write a regular column for School Library Collection, the journal published by Libraries Unlimited, the professional development imprint of ABC-CLIO. And of course, I love it when the topic turns to poetry! For the March/April issue, my article is a practical, annotated list of "10 Ways that Poetry Makes Library Collections Better." You can read the article and the whole issue online, but it requires a subscription to this in-depth online web resource, School Library Connection, an amazing professional development platform with over 250 video lessons, 3000 articles, 300 lesson plans and a searchable collection of 5000+ resource reviews. There's even a free trial available, if you want to explore its offerings. Meanwhile, I'd like to share my brief piece here, in hopes that it helps you make an argument for promoting poetry (if you need one)-- as a librarian, teacher, or even as a parent or volunteer. Happy Poetry Month!

Thanks for sharing your article. Nicely done!!
Another fantastic list from the List Queen!
Wow, Sylvia, so good to see this & to hear of the resources available. Thank you!
Meeting learners needs and creating a level playing field -- these are at the top of my own list. I see poetry creating these positive changes in my work as a visiting poet in the schools. Great article, Sylvia.
Thank you, Sylvia! Amen to your amazing article. Required reading for all librarians, teachers, parents -- and all who love children and poetry. You are not only our favorite poetry list-maker, article-writer, and anthologist, you ARE the Poetry Queen!
Thank you for sharing this. It gives me faith that libraries and books are in good hands.
Great advice, Sylvia! Poetry is for everyone all the time!
Thank you for this, Sylvia!
Wow! Only 100 poetry books for kids are published each year?! My tween just finished Becoming Muhammad Ali and loved it for all the reasons you mention in #4!
Terrific article, Sylvia!
Brilliant article, Sylvia. I'm looking forward to sharing it with my school library staff, if they have not seen it already. There is much I, as a classroom teacher, can take from this, too! Thank you for all you do for our community! -- Christie
