Ready for Halloween? There are quite a few poems for young people that feature Halloween characters and traditions and beliefs-- as well as poems about the season of Fall, the changing weather, and other elements of autumn. If you like a ghostly poem, here is a fun one about an unlikely ghost who is not scary at all!
Thank you, Kevan Atteberry, for your silly poem and Canva for fun animated graphics and this spooky audiophile! This poem, "Ghost Unlikely" comes from Clara's Kooky Compendium of Thimblethoughts and Wonderfuzz published by Pomelo Books. Here's the sample page that features the poem (below). In this book, we pair poems with Thimblethoughts of trivia, Wonderfuzz questions to ponder, tiny nuggets of language arts skills, lists of related fascinating facts and lots of clever cartoons by artist Frank Ramspott.
You can purchase this book from QEP Books (at a discount!) here. There are more than 100 poems to read, share, and use as mentor texts! Check it out!
Now, join the Poetry Friday crew over at Beyond Literacy Link where Carol is hosting our gathering (and gives a lovely shout-out to Clara's Kooky Compendium). [Thank you, Carol!]

Sylvia, I cannot wait to read this book! It looks jam-packed with so many thought-provoking tidbits, ideas, and poems. I LOVE the word "wonderfuzz!" I wonder who came up with that! : )
Hehehe--love that. The first stanza especially makes me chuckle :>)
Kevan's creativity with CANVA is inspiring me...Hope I can pull somethings together by the time I get home and finally get to read these wonderful pages!
This is special, a new look at some need for sympathy, right? The page is so creative! Thanks, Sylvia
Thanks for sharing, Sylvia. Such a timely poem!
COMPENDIUM is the right word for each page of this book!
"Wonderfuzz" and "Thimblethought" -- such great terms! And I LOVE Kevan's poem!
I meant to add a thought to my reply so I shall start again: Sylvia, you and Janet creatively took 150 poems and transformed an anthology into a magical ride through poetry. ThimbleThoughs share interesting facts and WonderFuzz questions add and element of curiosity. I am delighted to begin reading some pages like this one. Kevan's poem is a fun-loving for little ones. Since I am once again affected by a virus, I am on the slow-down again but I plan on adding my review in the near future.
This is so fun! I need to share this one with students this week!
