Sneak Peek for Poetry Friday 2019

Welcome to our first Poetry Friday gathering for 2019! (InLinkz at the bottom)

It's time again for me to gather all the poetry books for young people that I believe will be published in the year ahead. And I was shocked and happy to see I already have a list of 75+ books set to appear this year! WOO HOO! I usually only know about 20-30 books at this early date, then add to the list throughout the year and end up with around 100 titles. I hope this beginning list continues to grow and grow and grow! There are new poets to support, new forms and topics to consider, board books, nonfiction books, anthologies, novels in verse, memoirs, and more. Here's my "SNEAK PEEK" list thus far, but I know y'all will let me know of any additional titles or any errors you see here. Thanks!

Wow, Sylvia - what a list! And happy to see books by so many PF folks among the titles. Thanks for all you do to keep the world up to date on poetry for young readers, and thanks for hosting this week. Happy New Year! :0) (I have thoughts on Irene Latham's LOVE, AGNES and postcards and such this week.)

Fantastic list Sylvia, I'm making a copy so I can move through it as the year unfolds. Thanks for for bringing it right to our fingertips!
I'm sharing my "one little word," a spattering of #haikuforhope– that I'm continuing, and some art.

I love how much poetry is revered and promoted in the U.S. This is such an extensive list. I wish Australian publishers weren't so risk averse in relation to publishing poetry. It is a matter of some sorrow for me. Thank you hosting Sylvia and for the sumptuous list of poetic possibilities!

KatApel - katswhiskers.wordpress.com said...

Wow! So much poetry. I am gobsmacked. As Alan said, there is a reservation amongst many Australian publishers. We are such a small market, so there is risk in everything - it's hard yakka getting poetry published here. Enjoy your wonderful bounty!

Thanks for hosting, Sylvia - and for once again sharing your complete list of poetry for the new year! I'm sure it's not an easy thing to compile. (By the way, I think there may be one more of Lee's anthologies - I'm pretty sure he has another one besides the two listed, but you'll have to check with him)
