As I think about this pet-reading-responding connection, I started gathering a big list of pet poetry together and thought I might share it here. Yes, I am pet crazy with the release of my new Pet Crazy book with Janet Wong (and Kristy Dempsey, Helen Frost, Janice Harrington, Eric Ode, Laura Shovan, Eileen Spinelli, Elizabeth Steinglass, Don Tate, Padma Venkatraman, April Halprin Wayland, Carole Boston Weatherford, and Tamera Will Wissinger), but I also think pets are always such a source of joy, comfort, and companionship. Here are a few photos of pets I have loved in my family and an assortment of poetry books about all kinds of pets. Enjoy!

Guess who is hosting our Poetry Friday fun this week? Kathryn Apel from Australia! Go to her blog NOW!
Another great post, Sylvia! Here's an interesting article from Time magazine a few months ago about the effects pets (even crickets) have on people: http://time.com/4728315/science-says-pet-good-for-mental-health/.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is such a great list! Thank you. Taking it right to my library on Tuesday morning. Do you ever sleep? Honest question. Love your cheerful resourcefulness. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful list to add to your own Pet Crazy, Sylvia. There is much to do to help with the Hurricane Harvey disaster, including helping the pets. I was glad to see that the shelters are helping with them, too. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHey, y'all, thanks for your sweet words and the helpful link (Janet). So much to be grateful for just now, right?!
ReplyDeleteI imagine Otis is off to a shelter where less fortunate newly homeless pets were in desperate need of his small act of kindness...
ReplyDelete(Thanks for the pet poem list!)
Great list of books. And I did not know about the book club. I am amazed at all the ways people are coming together to help.
ReplyDeleteGreat list, and I love the photo of Otis. Luckily Houston knows all about flooding. Hopefully people and their pets will soon be home and reconnected.
ReplyDeleteI love this list.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad hands are reaching out to help these critters! Thanks for this rich collection of pet poetry books, I recognized a few favorites there. I'm looking forward to "Pet Crazy" too!
